Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy for Children & Teens

Some kids carry a lot and don’t show it. The stress of school, the exhaustion of social situations that look easy for everyone else, the daily work of being a neurodivergent kid in a world that wasn’t designed with them in mind. They need a place where they don’t have to manage how they come across. That’s what I try to offer.

Some people come in with a clear question. Others come because something has felt off for a while and they want help figuring out what. Both are welcome.

My practice is neurodivergent-affirming. Sessions are built around how your child’s mind actually works - their strengths, their challenges, and what genuinely helps them move forward. The goal isn’t to make them fit better into a mold. It’s to help them understand themselves, feel more settled, and build skills that are actually theirs.

What sessions look like…

Sessions look different depending on the person and what’s coming up that week. I draw from CBT, mindfulness, and UCLA PEERS depending on what’s needed. The work is practical - everyone leaves with something they can actually use.

FAQs

How do I know if counseling is right for my child?

1

If your child is struggling in ways that are affecting their daily life - school, friendships, sleep, how they feel about themselves - that’s worth paying attention to. You don’t need a crisis to start. A lot of families come in when something has been quietly off for a while and they finally want to do something about it. A free consultation is a good place to start figuring out whether it fits.

How is this different from school or campus counseling?

2

School and campus counselors do important work, but they’re stretched across large populations and focused primarily on academic and crisis support. What I offer is ongoing, individualized, and focused entirely on the person in front of me - their patterns, their goals, and what’s actually getting in the way.

How long does counseling typically last?

3

It depends on the person and what we’re working on. Some clients come in for a focused period around a specific challenge. Others continue longer term. We check in regularly on how things are going and adjust from there.

My child refuses to talk to anyone. How do you handle that?

4

It’s more common than you’d think, especially with kids who’ve had bad experiences with adults asking them questions. I don’t push. I follow their lead, use activity-based approaches when sitting and talking isn’t working, and build trust before anything else. Most kids warm up faster than their parents expect.
